Supporting Children’s Brain Health & Emotional Wellbeing in Malta
Every child deserves opportunities to feel supported, learn with confidence and develop the skills to navigate life with purpose.
Dr. Cristin Fitzpatrick, Founder and Director of Mediterranean Brain & Spine Center in Naxxar, Malta, attended as a guest at an event highlighting The Malta Trust Foundation’s Blossom Project and its commitment to children’s mental health and emotional wellbeing.
The Blossom Project provides school-based counselling and psychotherapy, supporting children, young people, families and educators across Malta. Its emphasis on accessible support, prevention and early intervention brings attention to an essential community priority: giving children the help they need to flourish.
Brain Health at the Heart of Children’s Development
At Mediterranean Brain & Spine Center, children’s brain health is central to our team’s work. Our approach considers physical, cognitive and emotional wellbeing together, recognising each child’s individual strengths, challenges and goals.
We believe families should have access to clear information and practical tools that help them understand their child’s needs and make informed decisions about support.
Educational Programs and Individualised Support
Through Brain Camp for Kids, parent education and individualised multidisciplinary programs, our team offers opportunities to explore and support:
-
Emotional regulation: Understanding feelings and practising strategies for everyday challenges.
-
Focus and attention: Developing habits that support engagement and participation.
-
Learning and academic performance: Identifying barriers and supporting skills used in the classroom.
-
Sensory-motor function: Working on movement, balance, coordination and responses to sensory information.
Recommendations follow an individual assessment and may include collaboration with a child’s existing healthcare providers, educators and other professionals.
Helping Children Grow with Confidence and Purpose
Our long-term goal extends beyond performance in the classroom. We want to help children build the foundations for greater independence, meaningful relationships and purposeful participation in their communities.
We are grateful for opportunities to learn from organisations such as The Malta Trust Foundation and acknowledge the important work of the Blossom Project. Supporting children’s wellbeing requires an ongoing commitment from families, healthcare professionals, schools and the wider community.
